On July 12, 2021, Ximena Garzón, Minister of Health, confirmed the first case of the Deltaplus variant in Ecuador. The Delta Plus variant is the one that generates the greatest fear in researchers and scientists who are struggling to find the most effective way to combat COVID-19 and its various mutations.
There is a record of a patient in El Oro who has presented a subvariant called Delta Plus, more contagious and with a higher mortality rate. This, after confirming 10 cases of the Delta variant in that province and Guayaquil. Doctors and scientists recommend using masks, social distancing, and constant handwashing to prevent the spread of this variant in Ecuador.
