"Mundialito de los Pobres" is one of the main indoor championships in Cuenca Ecuador organized by the Amistad Club annually. The best players and 36 teams representing the neighborhoods of the city participate in the competition.
The championship takes place during the holiday season in Cuenca, which is why it is also known as Vacaciones de los Pobres, and the prize is about 6000 dollars to the first place, 3000 for the second one, and 1500 for the third.
In the beginning, about 30 years ago, the competition was played in a school located in Cuenca called Febres Cordero and then since 2000 is played in the Coliseo Mayor and the ticket cost 3 dollars. It is open to the public in general. Every year it has been played but not in 2020 due to the COVID pandemic, and this year it will be played again because of them, the teams have been preparing for 3 months.
